The Adamawa State Executive Council has, at its 13th meeting, approved the construction of a road network, landscaping, and installation of solar-powered streetlights at the newly constructed market in Yola Town, Yola South Local Government Area.
The project is estimated at N2.097 billion.
The State Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Mr. James Iliya, disclosed this to newsmen shortly after the council meeting presided over by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri at the Council Chamber, Government House, Yola, on Wednesday.
Mr. Iliya explained that the contract, which was awarded to Amija Nigeria Limited, aligns with the Fintiri administration’s commitment to enhancing business activities and providing modern infrastructure for commercial centers.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Trade, Dr. Ishaya Dabari, stated that the blocks of shops at the market had already been completed within the project timeline.
He added that the new contract covers road construction, drainage, and solar lighting installations, with a six-month completion period.
In another development, the council approved over N496 million for the recapitalization of the Adamawa State Health Supply Management Agency.
According to the Information Commissioner, the fund, to serve as a revolving resource, is aimed at supporting the attainment of universal health coverage in the state.
Commenting on the initiative, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Chief Felix Tangwami, said that the state transitioned from the Essential Drugs Program to the Drug Management Agency last year, in line with a national policy backed by legislation.
The new agency, he noted, was introduced by the National Health Care Development Agency to tackle the proliferation of substandard and fake drugs.
“With this recapitalization, the Supply Management Agency will now be able to procure medications directly from certified pharmaceutical companies. No hospital in the state will independently procure drugs anymore,” he emphasized.

On the housing front, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu Pirambe, gave updates on the 1,000-unit housing estate project.
He recalled that the project, awarded in 2020, was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and prolonged rainy seasons farming activities but officially commenced in 2022.
“As of now, the housing units are completed, the road network has been constructed, and electrification is near completion. We are awaiting the Ministry of Water Resources to finish their aspect of the project. Just last week, we awarded the contract for the perimeter fencing,” Pirambe said.
