Cholera  outbreak spreads to 16  LGA’s in Niger, as persons infected rises to 409

There seems to be an health emergency in Niger State as the cholera pandemic has spread to Sixteen out of the twenty- five local Councils of Niger State.

It was gathered that no fewer than Four Hundred and Nine persons has tested positive  by the disease.

The Commissioner, Ministry for Primary Health Care, Niger State, Ibrahim Ahmed Dangana disclosed this on Thursday, while speaking to newsmen .

The Nations News reports that the state unveiled a sensitization on the Measles – Rubella campaign in Minna.

Dangana had hinted that though the death toll still remain at (13), saying that state government has put in place necessary measures to contain the spread of the infection.

He further explained that the government is well position to manage all the affected persons.

“We have identified isolation and treatment centers across all the 25 local Councils,not just Minna,the state capital”

He noted that  government had made available essential supplies of drugs and medicines including intravenous fluid to all the treatment centers.

The Commissioner emphasized that the treatment is free of charge to all the patients,” we are not charging, because,we want to quickly control the situation”.He said.

He pointed out that other modalities put in place include  stakeholders meeting and multi-sectorial committee on epidemic preparedness and response.

Dangana stressed that his ministry is working closely with the relevant ministries such as Environment,Water and Sanitation as well as all the development partners in the state.

He applauded development partners,the UNICEF,WHO and others for their unwavering support to the state government,he promised that government would sustained the synergy.
