Bauchi Govt threatens clampdown on senator Buba over alleged foul comment on security

Bauchi State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Abubakar Abdulhamid Bununu on Sunday said that the state government will not allow any person to use his political office to jeopardize the level of security that people are enjoying in the state.

Bununu who made this known while briefing newsmen at press gallery, Bauchi state government house said that as a government, “we decided to respond in a video circulating made by senator Shehu Buba alleging that personnel of the State Agency for Vigilante and Youth were responsible for the recent killing in Zaranda, Toro Local Government Area of the State.

Recall that, Shehu Buba is the current senator under the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) representing the good people of Bauchi South senatorial district.

“If you remember in the last period of celebration, we lost an individual in the cold hand of death, in his video was alleging that the people working under Umaru Shayi that are responsible for the killing”

“To make Shehu Buba know that after the occurrence of the incident, I was the second person contacted by the district head of Miri, Alhaji Usaini Abubakar while I was in government house with the chief security adviser, which we sat down together and we asked and he said that he can not actually pinpoint the person that perpetrated in the killing”

“So it’s not good for senator Shehu Buba to just go ahead and said that is that person that killed the deceased”

“You as a senator representing the southern part of the state, you have been instrumental to bailed accused people of those that were accused of banditry in various court, this allegations were denied by you”

“We are not happy that you are trying to tarnished the image of Bauchi state government and we want to tell you that the issue of security is very sensitive”

“Bauchi state government will not allowed any person to use his political office to jeopardize the heart of the government and the level of security we are enjoying in the state”

He described senator Buba’s statement as “baseless, inflammatory, divisive, and a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the state government and its security agencies”

“The senator’s reckless allegations are unacceptable and have the potential to compromise the state’s security, undermine the efforts of law enforcement agencies, and create unnecessary tension among the citizens”

Bununu said that the state government takes the security and well-being of its citizens seriously and will not tolerate any individual or group spreading false information or making baseless allegations that threaten the peace and stability of the state.

According to the commissioner “The Bauchi State Government is committed to ensuring justice and accountability for the Zaranda killing and has initiated a thorough investigation into the incident”

He urged the senator Shehu Buba to apologize to the people of Bauchi State for his irresponsible and misleading comments.

“The senator’s actions are a clear example of politicizing security issues, which is unacceptable and detrimental to the well-being of our citizens”

He called on the securities agencies in the state to invite Senator Shehu Buba for clarification on the ongoing video.

The commissioner of Internal Security and home affairs, Abubakar Abdulhamid Bununu, said that the Bauchi state government will continue to work tirelessly to maintain peace and stability and will not be distracted by baseless allegations and misinformation.
