Strike: Govt Offices, Banks, Filling Stations, public Schools Shutdown in C’River

As the organize labour, the NLC and TUC begin the Nationwide strike to demand for wage increase, in Calabar the State capital, there is compliance by public workers as all the government offices were Shutdown and labour officials going round to enforce full compliance.
The Nations News Nigeria discovered that Banks, filling Stations, public Schools were also shutdown as well as the state Broadcasting Corporation (CRBC), and most of the ATM machines in the state capital were deserted while the PHED(NEPA) Headquarters was also under lock and key
The organized labour in Cross River, Nigeria Labour Congress NLC and Trade Union Congress TUC have promised to put its weight solidly behind NLC national body.
The labour Leaders stressed that it would back it’s national body and do whatever it’s takes, even if it takes one year to achieve a sustainable minimum wage for workers.
The Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress in Cross River State, Comrade Greg Olayi, in an interview with The Nations News Nigeria made the declaration in Calabar on Monday
Olayi who made the remarks after mobilizing its members to shutdown government offices, banks, filling stations and Margaret Ekpo International Airport Calabar,
Olayi stressed that the 100 percent increase of N60, 000 naira offered by the government is not workable.
“We just left office of Head of Service (HOS), couple of minutes ago to ensure that there is compliant with directive of the national.
“Apart from those on essential duties like fire service and others we expect total compliant. We are moving round to ensure that every worker adhere to directives of the National body”. Olayi maintained.
