Ebonyi commissioner, Omebe speaks on the implications of one party system

Ebonyi state Commissioner on rural development, Ikeuwa Omebe has narrated the implementations of having one party system in the state.
Recall that there have been massive defections of members of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Labour Party, LP, and other political parties into the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ebonyi state.
The Commissioner, Omebe who spoke with newsmen, shortly after the birthday celebration of the former governor, Martin Elechi, that took place at the ecumenical centre Abakaliki capital of Ebonyi State, applauded governor Francis Nwifuru for organizing the event in the honour of the former governor, Elechi.
He said that the good governance and peace being displayed by the governor, Francis Nwifuru, was what attracted the massive defection of the opposition members into the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state.
He said: “The Former governor, Martin Elechi is a good book to read. He represents a beacon of unity, a good Democrat, and if he had not left a wonderful legacies as the governor of the state, infact, he was one of those who contributed immensely to the creation of Ebonyi, in which all of us are enjoying today.
“It is a thing worth celebrating, that those who have worked for us to have freedom, because to have a state of our own, means having an independence of our own, having authonomy and freedom from generation to generation. And those, who struggled for us to have it, should be celebrated” he stated.
Speaking on the implications of having one party system in Ebonyi state, Omebe said:”No matter really how much the wonderful works of the governor, Francis Nwifuru may be attracting them (Opposition party members) to drop their party, and join our own. It is also good to have checks and balances there. Leaving one’s party to another doesn’t mean that the former party structure has collapsed.
“Some individuals for one reason or the other, especially for the fact that they want to give wonderful support to the present administration led by governor Francis Nwifuru has decided that they can’t be doing that from a distance” he said.
On the massive defection of opposition party members to APC, Omebe said: “massive defection are already in place in Ebonyi but that doesn’t mean that other political parties are not existing.
“Really, those who are the wonderful operators of other political parties are saying that, yes we have ideas but we have seen a man who has a greater idea, and the political will to bring those wonderful ideas to implementation, for the good, peace and progress of Ebonyi State” he stated.
