The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved five academic programmes for the newly established Euston University, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, paving the way for the institution to commence academic activities in the 2026/2027 session.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Felicia Moh, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abakaliki at the weekend, describing the approval as a significant milestone in the development of the institution.

The approved programmes are Nursing Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Public Health, Computer Science and Cybersecurity.

According to the statement, the approval followed the successful completion of a resource verification exercise conducted by the NUC to assess the university’s preparedness to commence the programmes.

The exercise involved an assessment of the institution’s facilities, infrastructure, equipment and human resources to determine their adequacy for effective teaching, learning and research.

“The approval follows the visit of the NUC Resource Verification Team to the university to assess its readiness for the commencement of the proposed programmes and to verify the adequacy of its facilities, infrastructure, equipment and human resources,” the statement said.

It added that the NUC team was received by the principal officers and other key officials of the university, led by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Moh.

Moh expressed appreciation to the commission for the exercise and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to meeting and sustaining the regulatory standards required to deliver quality university education.

She also commended the university’s Chancellor, Lady Eunice Egwu, for her vision and investment in the institution, particularly her commitment to expanding access to quality higher education and creating opportunities for young people in Ebonyi State and beyond.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor noted that the university had made significant investments in infrastructure, academic facilities and human resources to create a conducive environment for teaching, learning and research.

She further praised the leadership of the NUC for its ongoing reforms and efforts to strengthen the quality and relevance of university education in Nigeria.

According to her, the successful resource verification exercise and the subsequent approval of the five programmes represent an important step towards establishing the university as a destination for higher learning.

The development is also expected to expand opportunities for prospective students seeking admission into the approved disciplines, particularly in health sciences and technology-related fields.

Moh, therefore, invited prospective students, parents, guardians and members of the public to take advantage of the admission opportunities available for the 2026/2027 academic session.

She, however, advised interested candidates to act promptly, noting that admission spaces were limited.

The approval marks a major step in the take-off of Euston University as it prepares to commence academic activities and contribute to the expansion of access to higher education in Ebonyi State and Nigeria at large.
