2027: Ebonyi PDP Leaders Rally Behind Egah for Ezza North/ Ishielu Reps Seat
By David Usman
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State has rallied behind Egah Chidiebere Paul, popularly known as Double-Chief, as he formally commenced his campaign for the Ezza North/Ishielu Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Egah declared his ambition on Friday, at a gathering attended by party leaders, community stakeholders, supporters and political associates at the country home of Chukwudi Nwankwo, popularly known as Overall, in Ishielu Local Government Area.
Addressing the gathering, Egah said his ambition was driven by a desire to promote people-oriented representation, improve infrastructure and expand economic opportunities for residents of the constituency.
He said his proposed legislative agenda would prioritize education, healthcare, potable water, electricity and rural road development, stressing that effective representation must translate into tangible improvements in the lives of constituents.

“Our people deserve a representative who listens and delivers,” he said, according to the statement on the event.
On education, Egah pledged to pursue initiatives aimed at rehabilitating dilapidated primary schools and improving learning conditions for pupils across the constituency.
He also promised to advocate improved healthcare services through the rehabilitation of rural clinics and better access to essential medical services, while identifying potable water, electricity expansion and the construction of feeder roads as key areas of intervention.
Addressing the economic needs of the largely agrarian communities, the aspirant said he would pursue measures to support farmers through agricultural input assistance and other initiatives designed to strengthen local food production.
He further outlined plans to promote women’s economic empowerment and youth development through targeted funding opportunities, skills acquisition programmes and vocational training centres aimed at expanding employment opportunities and reducing poverty.
The event also provided an opportunity for the PDP to demonstrate its support for Egah’s ambition, with a delegation of state party leaders in attendance.
Those present included the PDP State Chairman, Igwe Chukwuma; the deputy state chairman; the state secretary and publicity secretary; the state women leader; and party leaders from Ebonyi Central Senatorial District.
In a major political development at the gathering, the host, Chukwudi Nwankwo, announced his defection to the PDP from his former political party.
Nwankwo’s entry into the party added significance to the event, which supporters described as an opportunity to consolidate the PDP’s presence in the constituency ahead of the next general elections.

However, the political implications of the defection for the party’s fortunes in the constituency remain to be determined as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
The rally reached another high point when the state party leadership presented the PDP’s official flag to Egah and other candidates at the event, symbolising the party’s recognition of their political aspirations.
The presentation was followed by renewed calls among supporters for grassroots mobilisation, with participants pledging to take the campaign message to communities and wards across the constituency.
Egah’s declaration comes as political parties and aspirants intensify consultations and mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, with infrastructure, economic development and effective representation expected to feature prominently in campaigns across Ebonyi State.
