Ebonyi: Ex-commissioner, Orji, Ngwogwo community trade blames over alleged crisis, harassment

The former commissioner to Ebonyi state government, Mr. Uchenna Orji and Ngwogwo community in Ivo local government area of the state, on Thursday traded blames over alleged crisis, harassment and unlawful arrest of members of the community.

The Nations News Nigeria reports that Ngwogwo community staged a protest at the front of the old government house Abakaliki, to registered their grievances over the alleged unlawful arrest of their members by Orji.

They petitioned the governor, Francis Nwifuru, and the state commissioner of police, CP Augustina Ogbodo over the increasing disruption of peace and order in Ngwogwo community.

The protesters who are mainly old men,women and youths, tendered their written petition to the Governor through the state Commissioner for Boarder peace and Conflict resolution, Donatus Illang.

Speaking to newsmen, the Chairman of the community, Ogbonna Sunday Okeke  said they decided to come to the state capital to register their grievances to Governor Francis Nwifuru and the state Commissioner of police.

“We are here today to let our dear Governor know what we are passing through in the hands of our son, the former commissioner for Information ,Uchenna Orji.

“We are still enjoying the peace our Governor brought to our community by making sure that there was an election when some persons like Orji did everything for the election not to hold.

“But Uchenna Orji has vowed that peace will not reign. We don’t want crisis anymore in our community.

“Orji said that unless we pay allegiance to him as new exco of Ngwongwo community that we will know no peace.

“Uchenna Orji is the only big fish in government that we have in our community. What we need from him is government attention/projects. He should stop bringing crisis to our community.

“What we need in our community is development, peace and progress. We don’t need crisis anymore. If Uchenna Orji continues to cause crisis in our community through indiscriminate arrest of our sons and daughters, we will have no option than to banish him, he will face us squarely” they vowed.

Responding, the Commissioner for Boarder peace and conflict resolution, Donatus Illang assured the people of government readiness to restore peace and order in Ngwogwo community.

He said, “The government will ensure that there is peace in Ngwongwo and I don’t think that there is anybody that will bring crisis at Ngwongwo.

“I want to tell you people that all we want is peace, our Governor wants peace, Ebonyi state wants peace. The government is always with your community because it is part of Ebonyi state” he stated.

In a swift reaction, Uchenna Orji who is currently the Special Adviser to the Minister of works, David Umahi, said that there is no serious issues happening at his Ngwongwo community in Ivo LGA, to warrant his reply.

According to him: “There is nothing to react to. It isn’t worth my reaction” he said.
