The Campaign organization of former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, has dismissed claims by the Nasarawa State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Aliyu Bello, that the former police chief lacks a platform to contest the 2027 governorship election.

The campaign organization described Bello’s claim as “false, laughable and born out of panic,” insisting that Adamu has a credible platform and remains firmly in the race.

In a statement on Friday, signed by its Director of Media and Strategic Communications, Otaru Douglas, the organization said Adamu’s decision to leave the APC and join the Social Democratic Party (SDP) was a strategic move aimed at providing an alternative platform for the people of the state.

“Adamu’s defection from the APC, following the charade called a primary election, was a strategic move to a credible and people-oriented platform — the Social Democratic Party (SDP),” the statement said.

It maintained that the former IGP would contest the 2027 governorship election and emerge victorious through the support of Nasarawa voters.

“The IGP is contesting the 2027 governorship election and, by the grace of God and the will of the people of Nasarawa State, he will win convincingly,” it stated.

The campaign organization also criticised Bello’s leadership of the APC in the state, particularly the party’s governorship primary, which it alleged lacked transparency and internal democracy.

“The governorship primary he superintended as State Chairman has been widely condemned by party members and stakeholders across the 13 LGAs as lacking transparency, fairness, and internal democracy,” it alleged.

The organization further accused the APC chairman of resorting to personal attacks against the former IGP, warning that it would no longer tolerate what it described as unwarranted disparagement of Adamu.

“We are therefore call on Aliyu Bello to stay in his political lane and face his party’s dwindling fortunes,” Douglas said.

The group expressed confidence in Adamu’s political strength, saying his campaign was focused on transparent, secure and development-driven governance.

It added that “no amount of intimidation and media blackmail” would alter what it described as the decision of the people of Nasarawa State ahead of the 2027 election.

The statement stated that any further attempt to “disparage, defame, or malign” Adamu would attract what it called a “firm, proportionate, and decisive political response.”
