SAN, Sebastian emerges SDP Guber Candidate  in Benue

…,Vows To Drive Away Illegal Miners.

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Sebastian Hon

 on Tuesday, elected as the consensus candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the 2027 general election in Benue State.

Hon  was declared as the sole aspirant and returned as governorship candidate of the party by chairperson of the SDP electoral committee, Mrs. Rosemary Effiong after affirmation votes were received from local government areas across the state.

Speaking shortly after his affirmation as  candidate,. Hon vowed to drive away all illegal miners from the State and give maximum attention to the issue of herders and farmers crisis.

“You are aware that I have been fighting insecurity particularly these herdsmen and farmers crises. Therefore, I will not relent but make sure our people return to their ancestral  homes and to their respective farms. I will not look back in trying to restore security in our dear state.

“Iam a lawyer of 35 years standing and Senior  Advocate of Nigeria of 18 years standing. So, I know exactly what to do address the crisis and for illegal mining to stops. When I say it will stops, it will stop because to get  mining licence from the federal government is an easy thing.

 “I will not allow illegal mining to going on to propel insecurity in the State. As a matter of fact, immediately I resume office, 

“I will give an executive order that whoever engage in illegal mining should be arrested. Even if you are a foreign national, you must bow to the law of the land.

“It is better for us as a state to put an end to this so that proper revenue can come to the state to enhance development”, Hon stated.

The governorship candidate however assured that his administration would focus on restoring security, embark on massive industrialisation, job creations and take a closer examination of the civil service system in the  State, with a  view to curb  issue of illegal ghost workers that have overwhelmed State.

According to him, the civil service system in the State required total overhauling, hence the heavy number of ghost workers in both State and local governments.

He said aside giving attention to the civil service system, his administration will equally develop the agricultural sector in an unprecedented manner. 

“We will undertake massive farming and engage in partnership to enhance a value for agriculture through proper storage and application of appropriate mechanism and through subsidy.

“We will give a new direction of doing farming in State whereby our children  will reap and even send them abroad to learn more skills”, he stated.

He thanked the national and State leadership of the party for given the opportunity to become flag bearer of the State in the State.

Hon explained that the Social Democratic Party SDP has a historical stance in Benue State, stating that it was  through its platform that the second civilian governor of the State was produced in person of Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu.

He further disclosed that the party had in the past produced  senator from the State who eventually became president of the Nigeria senate.

“SDP is known for winning elections in Benue State and producing leaders that had developed the State. This party has a historical bound with Benue. 

“Through this party our second civilian governor emerged in person of Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu. The party equally produced senator Iyorchia Ayu as senator. 

“The party has brought me as governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections and am so grateful. 

“First, I went to the ruling All Progressives Congress APC to contest for the governorship seat but I met a gridlock and I left. Then I went to the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and I met a bigger gridlock

“Finally, I came to SDP and I was accepted. This is where my destiny lies. Therefore, I thank God Almighty for the opportunity and I believe He will make it possible for me to this.

“We will win the election and occupy the State government house comes 2027. I have all it takes to win the election. Thank God that the new electoral has made it more difficult for people to rig the election.

“We are going to campaign vigorously  and we have the structure on ground already in the State. So. I can assure you that SDP will win the 2027 general elections in the State”, he said.

While presenting the party flag to. Hon, the State Chairman, Mr. Idoko Itodo, said that SDP has made a right choice for chosen a right candidate, adding that SDP would wrestle power from the incumbent considering the antecedents and calibre of Hon.
