Police confirm killing of another monarch, as gunmen kill in droves

Palpable fear grips residence of Ebonyi State as unknown gunmen have continued to kill in drove the traditional rulers in various communities of the state.
Meanwhile, Ebonyi state police command has confirmed the killing of another monarch, HRH Jehoshaphat Ikegwu of Ishinkwor community, Onicha Local Government Area, Ebonyi State.
The Nations News reports that, no fewer than five monarchs have been so far murdered by unknown gunmen in less than five years in the state.

Recall that the father of the former deputy governor of the state, Francis Igwe was murdered and set ablaze by the gunmen.
Late Igwe was the traditional ruler of Ndufu -Alike community, Ikwo Local Government Area.
Also, a traditional ruler, Igboke Awa in Ezza North local government area of Ebonyi State, was murdered by gunmen few years ago.
Late, Igboke Awa was shut severally at the chest by gunmen who invaded his palace while taking a rest.
It was gathered that the killing of the recent monarch, Jehoshaphat Ikegwu took place on Wednesday night in his palace.
A reliable source who spoke to newsmen in Abakaliki, said the gunmen invaded Ikegwu’s palace and shot him through the window.
Responding, the Chairman of Onitcha local government area, Ikechukwu Ogbofia, also confirmed the killing, and however condemned the incident.

He said police was investigating the killings and urged the people of the community to remain calm.
The police public relations officer, PPRO, Ebonyi State command, Joshua Ukandu who spoke to newsmen, said the command is investigating the killing of the monarch.
