Enugu govt. to discover hidden talents in games, athletic events

The  finals of the third edition of Peter Mbah Secondary School Sports Championship, is scheduled to kicks- off, Wednesday, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.

The Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Lloyd Ekweremadu made this known in a statement signed and issued to newsmen on Tuesday.by the director for Information, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr Dan Onwuegbuna.

He emphasized that the Championship is designed to discover hidden sports talents, nurture and  expose them  to international stardom.

Ekweremadu explained that the  Championship begins on Wednesday 11th March 2026, adding that there is culmination of sporting events.

He emphasized that the event is held in  various Secondary Schools 2 weeks ago, in the  6  Educational Zones  in the State, according to him includes;  Agbani, Awgu, Enugu, Nsukka, Udenu and Udi.

The commissioner noted that, 60 athletes from each of the 6 Educational Zones, totalling 360 athletes will be  competing  for honours in football, volleyball, Table Tennis, games and athletics events such as 100metres 200metres, 400metres ,1by 400metres and 4 by 400metres, relay races. 

Other events include, High jump, long jump, Shot- put, Discus, javelin boys and girls respectively.

He, therefore invites, Secondary School students, teachers, sportsmen, women and members of the public to the Championship, which he said, promises to be ,exciting and entertaining display of raw sporting  talents in the State.
