The lawmaker representing Abakaliki North constituency in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Mr. Nwoke Victor Chidi on Monday urged the citizens of the state to always add a narration in their bank transactions to avert over taxation.
Nwoke emphasized that the federal governments new tax reform law will be affective from January 2026, and as such, should apply proper narrations while doing any bank transactions to avoid wrong taxation.
He made this known while addressing his constituents at his Igweokpu residence in Abakaliki, wherein he distributed thousands of bag of rice, and disbursed huge sum to mark the Christmas celebration.
According to him: "I'm trying to let the people know that if you want not to be charged wrongly in 2016 as it concerns taxation, you should be mindful of the narration and proof while sending money.
"If you're sending money to someone as a gift, you should be able to write in the narration that it is a gift. Or if it is for your family support, you write family support. Do you understand?
"Then, if you're borrowing from somebody, the person sending you the money on loan should be able to write that it is a loan.
"If you're paying back, you should be able to say loan refund or reimbursement, so that you will not be charged that it is an earned income.Do you understand?
"So, every money that is coming into your account should be able to show the narration, so that when they are charging you from bank, they will be able to know what they are charging you.
"It is not when you borrow money. You pay interest and you also pay tax. Do you understand? These are the things people should know in 2026 to avoid being charged wrongly.
He however, applauded the governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru for the numerous achievements/ developments recorded within the two years of his administration in the state, as well as, the good relationship existing between him and lawmakers.
