Girl 23-yrs arrested for robbery, kidnapping in Anambra

A 23 year old girl, Okonkwo Onyinye, suspected to be an armed robber/ kidnapper, has been arrested in connection with armed robbery/kidnapping of a man on 27th October at Nkwelle-Ezunaka GRA gate, Oyi Local Government Area, Anambra state.
On the fateful day, a five-man armed robbery/Kidnapping gang, operating in a Toyota Corolla car, allegedly double crossed a man who was driving in his Toyota Highlander SUV and was put in his car boot and drove off to a bush at Umuoji community, Idemili North Local Government Area.

On a tip off the Anambra State Police Command operatives attached to the 3 3 Police Station, in collaboration with Agunechemba Security, Nkwelle-Ezunaka Unit, in the early hours of 27th October 2025, arrested the said Okonkwo Onyinye, the female suspected accomplice at the scene of the incident.
The team also recovered the snatched Toyota Highlander SUV of the victim in Ogidi.
Preliminary information revealed that the owner of the SUV car was kidnapped and placed inside his car boot after being double-crossed by a five man armed gang operating in a Toyota Corolla car at Nkwelle GRA Gate.
The gang dispossessed him of his phone and transferred the sum of ₦24million from his account before abandoning him and escaping with the vehicle.
Following the report, the Joint Security Team, acting on technologically driven intelligence, traced the movement of the suspects to Nawfia and subsequently to Ogidi, where the armed hoodlums engaged the operatives in sporadic gunfire before fleeing the scene.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Tochukwu Ikenga, (SP), said that the Toyota Highlander, white in colour with registration number RBC 649 CN, was recovered and the female accomplice, Okonkwo Onyinye, was later arrested at the scene.
” She is currently assisting Police detectives with credible information that will aid in the arrest of other fleeing gang members.

“Furthermore, the Police have intensified patrols within the State, ahead of the Anambra State Governorship Election scheduled for November 8, 2025. Further developments will be communicated accordingly,” he stated.
