2yrs: FRSC laments loss of 688 lives in Niger on road accidents 

…Launches 2025 Ember months enlightenment campaign.

Worried by the 688 fatalities recorded in road carnage across Niger State especially during festive periods, the Federal road safety Corps has flag-off its Ember months public enlightenment and sensitization campaign. 

Niger Sector Commander of the Federal Road safety,  Commander Aishat Saadu flag-off the campaign at the NUJ press center in Minna while speaking to the media on Monday.

She disclosed that,  the  campaign will take effect from 15th December 2025- January 15th 2026 for effective traffic management with the theme, Take responsibility for your safety; stop distraction. 

Commander Aishat Saadu explained that,  the Corps decided on the theme because it  reinforce the fact that human factor is one of the  major causes of road crashes.

Commenting on the number of accidents between 2024- August 2025, the Niger Sector Commander revealed that a total of 672 crashes were recorded within the corresponding period. 

According to her, a total of  three thousand seventy-five, 3075 persons sustained various degree of injuries within the period across the State.

Hajiya Aishat Saadu said a total of six hundred eighty eight persons unfortunately lost their lives in those crashes, but added from available statistics 2024 indicate a decline of road crashes by 191 incidents in 2024.

” The Niger State 2024 operation zero started on the 15th December – 15th January crash statistics revealed that 46 persons were killed; 205 injured and 432 victims involved 

She said FRSC would be deploy personnel and special Marshal across the state highways and crash prone corridor for the Ember months campaign.
