Niger Police dismiss attack on Magistrate along Kontagora road
….says its robbery not banditry attack

The Niger State Police Command has clarified that the attack on a Magistrate, Zakaria Benjamin along the Kontagora- Tegina highway was a robbery attempt that the Command is investigating.
Command Spokesman, SP Wasiu Abiodun reacting to the incident said no member from the commercial vehicle that the Magistrate boarded was abducted contrary to earlier claims.

“The Niger State Police Command wishes to clarify this incident that on 11/09/2025
“As early as about 12.15am, suspected armed men attempted to block a commercial vehicle with Reg. No MAK 238 XA at Tudun-Fulani, along Kontagora-Tegina road”
He said in the course of this, the driver of the vehicle manoeuvre and zoomed off, leading to the hoodlums firing the vehicle.
“And the two passengers; one Zakari Benjamin (Magistrate)and Samaila who were in the front seat sustained gunshot injuries on the legs.
According to him, Police operatives of ‘A’ Div Kontagora rushed in and the victims were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment
“None of the occupants in the vehicle was abducted”
“Police tactical teams and other security agencies mobilised to the scene, while the hoodlums escaped to the forest.
He noted that, further investigation is ongoing, and drivers are also advised against late night journey
