Niger embark on massive sensitization and mobilization against Diphtheria outbreak

The Ministry of Primary Health development has embarked on aggressive sensitization drive to mobilise the people of Bida against the ravaging  Diphtheria disease. 

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry,  Muhammad Gana on Wednesday said the sensitization programme  is aimed at ensuring that families are aware of the need to immunize their wards.

He explained that, the Governor,  Mohammed Umaru Bago is supporting the drive to halt the epidemic from spreading further. 

According to him, the officials of the State Health ministry  are on ground in Bida  with sufficient resources, drugs and logistics to support the efforts of personnels at the Federal medical centre and Bida General Hospital.

” I Can assure you we are on top of the situation, from our efforts so far, I can assure you that the situation is under control “

He noted that, as a result of the ongoing sensitization programme, a number of vulnerable children have been immunized, while a number of affected victims are receiving treatment free of charge.

” We are working with our development partners, and so far I can say we are on top of the situation “

It will be recalled that about ten Children from Bida and Agaie Local Government Areas of Niger lost their lives to an outbreak of Diphtheria.
