10 chicken dice of diaphragm disease outbreak in Niger

 An outbreak of Diaphragm disease has claimed the Lives of ten Children in parts of Niger State.

The Nations News reports that the outbreak which occurred last week in Parts of Bida local government area and environs, has so far led to mortalities. 

A Source at Federal medical centre Bida confirmed  that so far not less that ten children has succumbed to the deadly disease that often leads to breathing difficulties among children.

The source maintained that,  the outbreak was first reported within Bida community where some families observed the ailments among unvaccinated children. 

The Federal medical centre has been battling with influx of parents besieging the facility for emergency treatment as it has now been declared an health emergency in the area.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of primary healthcare,  Muhammad confirmed the outbreak , but said he is yet to confirm  the actual number of deaths.

Gana  attributed the outbreak to Children that were not vaccinated during national immunization programmes.

” There were families that refused their children to be vaccinated during ongoing immunization programmes, it is unfortunate we are seeing this fatalities

” The outbreak is not only reported in Bida and environs alone, we also have reported cases of  an outbreak in a village called Twatiko in Agaie Local Government Area “

According to him,  the State government has responded by massively mobilizing human and drugs to the affected communities to commence a massive vaccination of Children and youths.

He assured that, the State has enough drug supply from development partners to halt the spread  of the disease  to other local government areas of the State.
