By Cyprian Ebele, Onitsha
A commercial bus driver, Mr Uchechukwu Dike, at the weekend presented a cash gift of N50,000 to governor Charles Soludo in appreciation for the rehabilitation of roads in the state.
The driver who expressed dismay that in two years the governor performed more than what successive administrations could not perform on roads, prayed God to continue to guide and protect him.
The presentation which took place during the governor’s inspection of completed roads in Onitsha, attracted scores of commercial drivers who hailed the driver for appreciating good things.
It was gathered that initial move by the driver to meet with the governor was stalled by his security details until this weekend when he had the opportunity to penetrate and met one on one with him.
“Soludo is yet to borrow any money from anywhere since he took over the mantle of leadership despite the current economic quagmire,” he stated.
In his response, the governor who will mark his two years in office at Awka tomorrow, Sunday, thanked the driver for showing appreciation and returned the money to the driver even as he prayed for him.
“They say nobody rejects money, and I will not reject this one. I deeply appreciate this gesture, but I will rather say that this money will multiply in million folds for you,” Soludo prayed.
