The Niger State Government has approved a temporary adjustment of official working hours for civil servants during the 2026 Ramadan fasting period.

This was contained in a circular issued by the Office of the Head of Service and dated 18th February, 2026, following the approval of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago.

According to the circular, the adjusted working hours commenced on Wednesday, 18th February, 2026, and will be observed throughout the month of Ramadan.

Under the new arrangement, civil servants are to resume work from 9:00am to 2:00pm from Monday to Thursday, while on Fridays, official duties will run from 9:00am to 1:00pm.

The circular, signed by the Head of Service, Abubakar Sadiq Idris, was addressed to top government functionaries, including the Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, Clerk of the Niger State House of Assembly, Permanent Secretaries, the Chief Registrar of the High Court, and heads of parastatals and extra-ministerial departments.

The government noted that the adjustment was aimed at easing the demands of fasting on Muslim workers while ensuring the continued efficiency of public service delivery.

Governor Bago also urged Muslim faithful in the state to use the holy month to rededicate themselves to the teachings of Islam and to pray fervently for peace, security, unity, and progress of Niger State and Nigeria at large.

The circular emphasized that normal working hours would resume at the end of the Ramadan fasting period.
