Niger to reposition state’s ministries for greater efficiency, productivity

Inview of the massive Infrastructure Development being embarked upon by Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, the State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure Development is to be repositioned for the administration’s new Niger agenda.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hassan Baba Etsu disclosed this during a breakfast Meeting with staff of the Ministry.
Estu, who is currently overseeing the affairs of the Ministry, stated that staff welfare, human resource management, and the future direction of the ministry are paramount to the Governor.

“In my recent briefing by the Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, he reiterated his commitment to repositioning the state’s ministries for greater efficiency and productivity.”
According to Hassan Baba Estu, the meeting with Governor Bago centred on strategies to strengthen human resources across the state’s civil service.
He explained that no ministry can thrive without dedicated and well-motivated staff who understand their roles in driving government policies.
The Permanent Secretary assured that the ministry will undergo a new phase of transformation, which will involve an honest assessment of staff capacity, skills, and performance levels.
“This is not to witch-hunt anyone but to identify areas that require improvement for overall service delivery”
The Permanent Secretary urged the staff to approach their duties with utmost seriousness and dedication, stressing that the success of any government policy depends on the level of commitment shown by civil servants at the implementation level.
According to him, the workforce of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure Development plays a critical role in shaping the physical outlook of Niger State, as its projects directly impact citizens’ lives through roads, buildings, and public facilities.
Addressing concerns about the challenges facing the ministry, Hassan Baba Estu appealed for patience and understanding, noting that some of the difficulties were systemic but assured staff that the management team is working tirelessly to resolve them.
“Very soon, things will be better,” he said, noting that ongoing reforms, in line with Governor Bago’s vision, will create a more enabling environment for workers to thrive and contribute meaningfully.”

He further called for unity and cooperation within the ministry, urging staff members to see themselves as partners in progress rather than competitors. He maintained that teamwork remains the only way the ministry can achieve its mandate.
Hassan Baba Estu also promised to keep channels of communication open between the management and staff.
He explained that transparency and accountability will guide every decision taken under his leadership.
