Niger Govt to deploy security in IBB varsity to avert killings of students

The Niger State Government has followed the killing of two hundred level students of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, Lapai pledged to deploy maximum security to avert further occurrence.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hamidu Mu’azu Jantabo, who made this known shortly after an emergency security meeting in the state, expressed condolences to the deceased family.
He urged students to avoid protest and destruction of properties, warning that such actions could lead to prosecution by relevant laws
After the security meeting, some Key measures were announced to enhance security in the town and the university community.
They include the deployment of over 200 trained local vigilantes for patrols, Establishment of approved security checkpoints, Stricter landlord regulations to ensure secure student accommodations.
Other measures include collaboration with the Niger State Urban Development Board to address unapproved lodges,
Immediate provision of a new transformer to fix power issues, Logistical support like motorcycles for security patrols.
They also hinted of coordinated patrols and student security committees as alternatives to permanent outposts and Mandatory student ID cards and recruitment of additional vigilantes.
The Vice Chancellor, Mohammed Hadi Sulaiman, urged students to be vigilant, know their neighbors, and report suspicious activities.
He emphasized that security is a responsibility and all hand must be on deck to curb the menace in the town.
The Vice Chancellor also met with the Lapai Emirate Council to strengthen community-based security.
Stakeholders, including government officials, traditional leaders, and student representatives, committed to swift actions to restore safety and trust.
