Nat’l Security: Igala Chiefs hail appointment of Lt.-Gen. Shaibu as Army Chief

Amid growing concerns over national security and the need for stronger defence leadership, the Forum of Igala Traditional Chiefs in Karu, Nasarawa State, has applauded the appointment of Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu as the Chief of Army Staff.

They described the appointment as timely and critical to strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, HRH, Yunusa Al Ce Salifu Alide Omakoyi Ogah Attah, and the Secretary, the Forum and sent to The Nations News on Sunday said Shaibu’s elevation is “well-deserved and reflective of his unwavering dedication, professional excellence, and exemplary leadership.”

“We are confident that he will discharge his duties with distinction and contribute immensely to strengthening Nigeria’s defence and security architecture,” the chiefs said.

The Forum prayed for God’s guidance for the new Army Chief, noting, “May the Almighty God grant him more wisdom, strength, and divine protection as he leads the Nigerian Army to greater heights.”

They also congratulated the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo, and the Attah Igala, HRM, Mathew Alaji Opaluwa Oguche Akpa II, describing the appointment as a source of pride to the Igala nation.

The traditional rulers further commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for “recognizing and appointing a worthy son of Igala land to this exalted position.”

The Forum expressed optimism that Lt.-Gen. Shaibu’s tenure will bring honour, peace, and progress to Nigeria.
