Gov Bago advocate for a single term tenure for Governors to avert desperation

The Niger State governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago has advocated for a single term for all elected governors to curb the desperation for second term in office, which according to him stalls development.
The Governor stated this at the inauguration of newly elected local government council Chairmen, their deputies and Commissioners at Government house, Minna on Friday.
He disclosed that, the rush and desperation for second term in office distract most elected officials to abandon governance for partisan politics when much ground is yet uncovered.

According to him, ” iam an advocate of single tenure for Governors for us to achieve effective governance and development
“The craving for second term often turn political office holders to turn everything into politics
“when people fail examinations over and over again, you can’t sack them because you are afraid it may affect your second term chances”
The first term All Progressives Congress Governor of Niger State said the hand of most Governors are tied due to political consideration and could not take decisive action on development.
“Every body is procrastinating due political considerations, we need Governors to have single tenure for them to be more pragmatic in the concept of development “
The Governor also noted that the time for the establishment of State Police is now if the current state of insecurity is to be curbed.
” State Police is now a reality, we need to have community policing by abandoning self aggrandizement for reality “
He urged the newly sworn in Commissioners and local government Chairmen to key-in into the new Niger agenda which is well thought out policy frame work for the state rebirth in Security, agricultural revolution, health care expansion and infrastructural development.
However, the Governor shock the newly sworn in Commissioners and well wishes when he refused to allocate portfolios to them.
