Ebonyi police to investigate killings of officer who allegedly involved in robbery

The commissioner of police, Ebonyi State command, CP. Augustina Ogbodo on Tuesday has ordered for a full investigation into the killings of an officer whose name is yet to be identified at the time of filing this report, for alleged involvement in robbery.

The Nations News Nigeria reports that the said officer was allegedly killed by suspected vigilantes, who caught him (officer) at the robbery scene.

The commissioner of police, Ogbodo made this known through in a statement signed and made available to newsmen in Abakaliki by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Joshua Ukandu.

The statement reads in part: “Ebonyi State Police Command is aware of a report, claiming that a police officer was involved in a robbery incident and overpowered by vigilantes, who killed the police officer at the scene.

“The command wishes to clarify that it has commenced an investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing of the police officer and the alleged offence.

He noted that two suspects was arrested in connection with the killings of the said officer “Two suspects who confessed to the killing have been arrested and the command will address the factual aspect of the issues following the completion of the investigation” he stated.

The commissioner, Ogbodo however solicited for the collaboration of the citizens in the fight against crime and criminality in Ebonyi State.
