Ebonyi Gov. Nwifuru backs community policing, vows to tackle all security challenges

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru has called for the introduction of Community Policing as a panacea for the security challenges facing the  country.

Nwifuru made this known while interacting with the assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 9 Umuahia  Suleman Yusuf who paid him courtesy call at the new government house Abakaliki capital of Ebonyi State.

He attributed the peace and tranquility in the State to the co-operation of the police. 

“Community Policing is the best option in crime prevention. The reason is because you must first of all know the terrain before you act.

“Community policing is a kind of information giving. It is my duty to protect lives and properties.

“I want to congratulate you sincerely for your position.

He called on the Nigerian police to introduce a reward system that will encourage officers and men of the Force to carry out their duties more effectively.

“We must at this point encourage performing officers by  rewarding those who put their lives on the line to protect lives and property of the citizens 

“I have personally  encouraged Officers who are performing creditably.

Earlier in a remark, the AIG Yusuf told the governor  that the purpose of the visit was to interface with the  officers and men of the  command  to enhance their operations.

“I am equally here to appreciate you for the support you have been given to the police in Ebonyi State  to be able to perform excellently. 

“Ebonyi State is most peaceful compared to  others in the Zone.

“I thank you for all you have been doing for the Officers and men in the Command.

“My is plea is that other stakeholders should join us in Policing”.

The Nations News Nigeria reports that Yusuf assumed office as AIG zone 9 on  December 3, 2024.
