C’River: Ex-CMD, Egba cautions men to shun stress to avert breakdown

The Centre For Gender Development, University of Calabar yesterday celebrated the 2024 International Men’s day at the Council’s Chamber of the University
In her speech, the executive Director of the Centre, Brenda Akpan said the centre was set up in 2020 to carter for the development of both male and female members of the community to recognize and appreciate their sociological and cultural responsibilities

She stressed that the centre is geared at building positive ideas and knowledge towards the social and academic perspectives of gender as well as balance the mentality of both the old and the young towards the idea of gender equality as a human right
The chairman at the occasion, Uche Amalu Former DVC academic of the University in his introductory remarks urged men to always love them selfs, work and take rest so that they can live longer and advised that Men also need to be given attention
In his lecture title which was on”Stress”, the guest lecturer, Prof Roland Ndoma Egba former Chief Medical Director, University of Calabar Teaching Hospital stressed on the need for Men to take care of themselves first by living a healthy life no matter what it takes if they must live long
He said stress could be mental, emotional and even psychological that if not properly manage could lead to heart disease
In her remark, former Head of Service to the Federation, Mrs Angela Oyo Ita has also advocated for the Ministry of Gender affairs instead of the present ministry of Women affairs stating that this will bring gender balance, she maintained
