ASUU-FUAM Condemns abduction of 4 female students in Benue

The Academic Staff Union of University – Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi (ASUU-FUAM), on Wednesday, condemned  in strong terms the kidnapping of four innocent female students of the University.

The union noted with  dismay cases of kidnap of students in the past on the  university campus, stating that given this circumstance, the union is no longer sure of the security of her members for discharge of their legitimate duties.

They have demanded for immediate and safe rescue of the three students that were kidnapped on Tuesday, 25th February, 2025, stressing that their rescue will ensure stability on campus for smooth academic activities.

A statement by Paul Igber Anyagh ASUU-FUAM Chairperson, the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi was greeted with yet another wave of insecurity following the kidnap of three students of the University on the evening of 25th February, 2025.  

He said with this development, the union is not sure that its members will be safe on campus given that this incident is one too many.

 “In the past, a member of our union was kidnapped at the University staff quarters, although he was later released, it went to show the porous security nature on our campus.

“In light of the foregoing, we are making the following appeals on the University administration and all security agencies in the state:

The immediate and safe rescue of the three students that were kidnapped on Tuesday, 25th February, 2025. This will ensure stability on campus for smooth academic activities.

“The improvement of the security architecture on campus to ensure a safe environment for teaching and learning

The union is standing in solidarity with our students and parents and do hope for the safe release of the abducted students soonest. 

He enjoined members of the union to be calm in these challenging times with the hope that University administration is doing her very best to secure the campus for smooth academic activities.
