Bloody Tuesday: 22 dies in Niger road accident

A fetal road accident has claimed 22 lives near Tufa village along Lambata-Lapai road in Gurara local government area of Niger state.
The accident, according to eyewitness account, occurred at about 3:30 am on Tuesday morning on a day Nigeria’s First Lady visited the State to commiserate with them on the ravaging banditry attacks and natural disasters.
The Niger State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Aisha Saadu, confirmed the incident describing it as unfortunate.
According to her, ” the accident happened at about 3:40 a.m. when a heavily loaded lorry transporting passengers and goods from Kano to Lagos lost control and veered off the road. The vehicle was carrying 42 males and cago when it crashed”
Villagers who rushed to the scene of the accident said the tragedy occurred due to overspend and that it was gory sight as bodies were mangled on the road.
The Sector Commander also listed other cusses of the tragedy to overloading and poor travel conditions.
The Sector commander noted that , ” 22 individuals were confirmed dead on the spot, while the 20 injured were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Lambatta”.
