The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has conferred an award of honour on Eyo Etim Nyong, a former member who represented Cross River State in the board of NDDC in recognition of his invaluable contributions to the development of the Niger Delta intervention regime.

The award ceremony, which took place in the state, drew an array of dignitaries, political leaders and stakeholders from across the South-South region.

The event served not only as an award ceremony but also as a reflection on the critical role of intellectual leadership in regional advancement.

Nyong, a seasoned academic, an outstanding authority in Petro-chemical Engineering, an Elder Statesman and a political giant with surpassing dimensions, has played a strategic role in shaping development policies and projects in the Niger Delta over the years.

His input in the areas of environmental sustainability, infrastructure planning, and policy development has been widely acknowledged by both government and non-government institutions.

In his remarks, the Managing Director, NDDC, Samuel Ogbuku, described Nyong as “a beacon of intellectual integrity and a relentless advocate for equitable development in the Niger Delta.”

He noted that the award was part of the Commission’s commitment to honouring individuals whose work has left a lasting imprint on the socio-economic landscape of the region.

In his response, Nyong expressed gratitude to NDDC for the recognition, stating that his efforts were guided by the vision of a prosperous, peaceful, and ecologically secured Niger Delta.

“This award reaffirms the importance of staying committed to the values of service, equity, and sustainable development,” he stated.
