The Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority, ECTDA, has disclosed that it was because the New Artisan market in Enugu turned into a criminal hideout that made the state government demolish the entire area.
The Authority, on Wednesday, moved its machines to the animal market and reduced them to rubles.
Speaking on why the demolition took place, the Chairman of ECTDA, Uche Anya said, “It’s a criminal hideout. Armed robbers operate from there, kidnappers operate from there, illegal weapons are stacked there.
“They have a cell for kidnappers. The real genuine cow meat traders are not necessarily our problem, our problems are the brothels, the kidnapper dens, the hideout activities, the illicit drugs.
“No serious government will tolerate what’s going on in the new Artisan market. I understand my predecessors did their best but that place will never exist again in the format it existed.”
Anya said that the genuine cow traders will be relocated to a more appropriate location for their business, disclosing that the arrangement is being concluded with the leaders of the cattle market for the relocation.
