300 receive free Medicare as Fada Pita Tennis tournament ends in Anambra

No fewer than 300 less privileged people received free medical care as Fada Pita Charity Tennis Tournament, (FPCT) ended its 24th edition held at Onitsha People’s Lawn Tennis Club, last weekend, in Anambra State.

The free medical outreach which preceded the tennis tournament was witnessed by the founder of the FPCT, Very Rev. Fr.Peter Muojekwu, Chaplain of FPCT, Very Rev Fr. Anthony Obele, chairman of the occasion,

Innocent Mozie, President FPCT, George Okezie Adinnu( Kpakpando Ihiala), patron of the club, Chinedu Oruche (Omezorinnaya), among others.

In his address the President, Adinnu, said,  “Today is a very good day as we all gather to end the 24th edition of Fada Pita  Charity Tennis Tournament which was flagged off on 25 April this year at Oraifite Sports club.

“Today is the closing day which we started with free medical treatment and about 300 patients received free medication. Those with low/high blood pressure, eye problem, malaria fever, and others were treated by our medical team free of charge.

“We footed the bills by ourselves as part of Charity to assist the founder, Very Rev  Fr Peter Muojekwu, in his Evangelical work of rendering help to the less privileged in the society.

“We are eight clubs in Anambra state that make up the tournament and plan to extend it to Asaba. We have discussed with Amawbia Sports club and they will join us in next year’s tournament being the 25th edition,” he further disclosed.

Speaking, the founder, Fr. Muojekwu disclosed that, ” FPCT is one entity with three arms: Fada Pita Charitable Initiative Nigeria which is the mother and the oldest branch and the other two sister branches in the United States. They are Fada Pita Charitable Organization and Fada Pita Sports Foundation.

“These two bodies in the United States work  hand in hand to champion the diverse  works of the Fada Pita Charitable Initiative. Fada Pita Charitable  organization champions the course of persons with disabilities and the abandoned kids

while the Fada Pita Sports Foundation undertakes the work of promoting the youths’ program,” he stated.

Speaking, the chaplain of FPCT, Very Rev. Fr. Anthony Obele, revealed that the tournament which started 24 years ago will celebrate its silver jubilee by next year 2027 at Nnewi, its headquarters.

He said that, “Sports brings people together irrespective of religious denomination. An Anglican has been the chairman of this FPCT for 10 good years. This is about rendering help and not religion.

“We have tried for government to come to our rescue but all in vain and we resolved to carry the cross by ourselves,” he lamented 

The grand patron of FPCT, and Grand patron of Rojenny Sports  Club, Oba, Chinedu Oruche, who presented two wheel chairs to the organization for the disabled children, said, “Every time I present two wheel chairs to assist the less privileged.

“It is a work of Charity that we are doing and I call on all others to do to emulate us so that the lives of these less privileged will be better.

“I commend the founder of this program, Fr Muojekwu and pray to God to give him the strength especially now that the silver jubilee will be celebrated next year,” he prayed.

In his own contribution , the CEO of Bencarmel Global Motor Ltd, Benjamin Ohanuba, who was among the three honoured with the award of ‘Golden Pillar of Charity,’ said he is always ready to assist when called upon .

In his remark, Nathan Ogbunkwo, (mayor), expressed satisfaction with the smooth end of the tournament and urged the founder and members of the various clubs not to relent in their humanitarian work.

Elites Club Omagba phase 2 lifted the tournament giant trophy, followed by the runners up, Rojenny Lawn Tennis club while Oko Sports club got third position.
