Enugu Police arrest 4 suspects, recover 3 stolen vehicles

Enugu State Police Command operatives arrested four male suspects in separate intelligence-driven operations, recovering one vehicle stolen in Enugu and two snatched in Anambra State, including one linked to a 2022 kidnapping.

In a press statement sent by the Public relations officer Enugu State command headquarters Daniel Ndukwe, said that on 26th February 2026 at about 5:30 a.m., the Command’s operatives attached to the Central Police Station (CPS).

The arrest was done in collaboration with the Neighbourhood Watch Group, arrested Teso Joseph Nsor (male, aged 22), a native of Guma LGA, Benue State, at Christ Chemist Roundabout, Enugu. 

According to the statement, the suspect who had arrived in Enugu the previous day without a fixed address, was apprehended while attempting to escape with a stolen Toyota Hiace bus, which he reportedly accessed and started using a master key. 

The vehicle was recovered and its owner identified, and the suspect was arraigned in court on 27th February 2026, and remanded in Correctional Centre custody.

Furthermore, in a separate operation on 31st January 2026 at about 6:00 p.m. Operatives of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad arrested Ugwuanyi Samuel, alias “Sammyblack” (male, aged 36), a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity. 

He was found in possession of a red Toyota Camry (Spider) bearing a National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) plate number. 

Investigations revealed the vehicle belonged to a female victim from Ogbunike, Anambra State, and was snatched in June 2022 after her son was abducted at gunpoint while driving the vehicle, later released upon payment of ₦500,000 ransom, with the vehicle carted away and repainted.

Earlier, on 24th January 2026 at about 9:00 a.m., operatives of the same Tactical Squad, acting on intelligence, stormed New Garriki, Awkunanaw, Enugu, and arrested two suspects: Chinonso Onyibe John, a.k.a. “Flexing” (aged 27), and Nwankwor Uchenna Samuel (aged 41), an ex-convict. 

A red Toyota Matrix with Reg. No. AAH 785 AE) was recovered. The suspects confessed to snatching the vehicle at gunpoint in Awka, Anambra State, on 23rd January 2026 and to other operations involving a Lexus RX 350 and a Toyota Highlander.

Investigations are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices. The remaining suspects and exhibits will be handed over to the State Police Command in Anambra for further investigation and prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa,  has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating crime and urged residents to provide credible information while adopting basic vehicle security measures.
