…laments youth unemployment

By Cyprian Ebele, Onitsha

Worried by lack of infrastructure and youth unemployment in his Nteje Abogu community, Oyi Local Government area, Anambra State, the Igwe-elect of Nteje, Christopher Okechukwu Nnebo, has begged Governor Chukwuma Soludo to remember the area in his second tenure that commences from 17th March, 2026 when he will be sworn in.

Pleading for the rapid infrastructural development of the community, the Igwe-elect lamented that they have never enjoyed motorable roads, pleading that construction of at least two major roads would be a big sigh of relief to the people

His words, “Since our amiable and workaholic (Oluatuegwu), governor is entering into his second tenure, he has the ample opportunity to get the projects executed. Insecurity is another problem we have, teeming youths that are all over the place.I plead that he finds an avenue to get them engaged, those who want to go to school should be encouraged. let the state look into trying to enforce a law to make idleness unacceptable situation to disrupt the high rate of crime,

“We are really aware that before his second tenure a lot of changes have come through him, again the airport road, most of the street lights are vandalized.

“We have made this known to him after his emergency meeting with us. It is an opportunity to re-emphasize on the need of what we have been asking as Ndi Nteje.

“In Anambra state generally, we hear people saying more of security, we are ready to get rid of Monday sitting at home. How would the businesses be protected, we know that along the river Niger, the shore of river Niger, if that axis is not protected, that makes it a very bit vulnerable to the market to be attacked.

“We are equally happy that sit at home has come to an end.

Anambra is a business environment, security should be beefed up, once provided, it will allow every other thing to flourish. In Nteje here we have been looking for a health facility, we have a health center and have been in that state for a long time. There is little bit of improvement to allow the scope of treatment, especially the maternity side of it.

“When you have a community that is healthy, it encourages a healthy economy because generation of revenue comes from people. It trickles down chain reactions, when people are healthy you will find out that everybody will go about his business or places of livelihood, that then generates revenue for the state.

“As long as commerce is concern, Anambra State is known for commerce, security and road network are taken care of, of course there is part of cleanliness, discipline needs to be bestowed on Ndi Anambra to keep their environment clean, so that  we could also generate some revenue as long as tourism is concerned.

“Anambra doesn’t generate anything from tourism, we know there are economies that solely dependent on tourism, movement of people, we know our governor is looking towards that, we know the millennium in Awka, things like that can leisure, hotels are really coming up, night life is also encouraging, especially in the cities, that makes the state vibrant and attractive for visitors both local and foreign.

“No insurance covers the traders, I think when that is given, they will have confidence, when the government backs them with security, I don’t think there will be fear on the side of the traders. Anambra needs to be decentralized because Anambra is a very small state in terms of landmarks.

“So decentralization of markets will help a lot in terms of travel logistics, otherwise it will end up being like Lagos state when you want to move from one place, you will be stuck in a traffic jam for two to three hours. These are very productive hours of the day. So a lot of money is involved in such road networks that are not accessible.

“We are happy that sitting at home has been taken care of, we have to encourage him, leadership is all about service to the people. let him look at other areas of concern and give it the same energy he applied on sit at home, let him look at power generation,” Nteje Igwe-elect pleaded.
