2027: Nigeria can never operate in One-Party system — IPAC Chair, Nwaeze

The Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Ebonyi State chapter, Nasri Nwaeze, has ahead of the forthcoming 2027 general election in the country, insisted that Nigeria can never operate in one-party system.

He warned against such move by political actors in the country, adding that one-party structure is dangerous to democracy.

Nwaeze insisted that despite public perception, Ebonyi is not a one-party state, revealing that 17 political parties are currently active and operating independently.

According to him; “Opposition is not about opposing for its sake.

“Here, parties engage constructively, and that is why it looks like there is no opposition,” he said.

He explained that IPAC provides a platform where all parties including APC, PDP, APGA, YPP, ADC and others resolve issues amicably and offer recommendations to the government. 

The IPAC chairman, Nwaeze noted further that past suggestions from the council resulted in visible improvements in governance.

He added that IPAC will soon inspect ongoing state projects to ensure standards are met.

On defections to the APC, he said political movement is normal and does not erase the existence of other parties.

The chairman restated IPAC’s strong support for special seats for women and emphasised the need for inclusion of youths and persons with disabilities across all party structures.

He advised youths to be security-conscious as the festive season coincides with increased political activities.
