‘we will boycott LG polls in Ebonyi, it’s selection, not election – LP. insists

Labour Party, LP, Ebonyi State chapter on Wednesday said that it will not participate in the forthcoming local government election in the state, because it’s a one man activity, not election.

The former gubernatorial candidate of the party, Splendour Oko Eze made this known while speaking with newsmen shortly after in a meeting with party members that took place at San Diego hotel located along old Enugu road, Abakaliki capital of Ebonyi State.

Oko-eze represented by the publicity secretary, Igiri Innocent said that” Local government elections in Nigeria as today is known to be selection, is not an election.

“Labour Party, LP, will not take part in such selection activity. And we in the national transition committee, have already started the process of repositioning the party in the country and Ebonyi state is not left behind. 

“The Ebonyi local government election is a man activity, and we are encouraging the attorney general of the federation to continue what he is doing to get the governors to implement the part of the law that gives local government authonomy.

“And to make it as a law for the independent national electoral commission, INEC, to conduct Local government elections in the country.

The Nations News Nigeria reports that the Ebonyi State Independent electoral commission, EBSIEC, has slated 20th July, 2024 as date for the local government election in the state.
