North East region to partner UNICEF to eradicate child poverty

The Gombe State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Salihu Baba Alkali has revealed the preparedness of the governments in the North East region to partner United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, towards eradicating child poverty in the region.

Salihu made this known while addressing participants during the media dialogue on child poverty in Bauchi Field Office with the states of Bauchi, Gombe and Adamawa, that took place at the Evolution hotel, Tumfure in Gombe State.

He said that the north east region has been contending with poor human development, which according to him, is an indicator of insurgency and massive influx of people from the conflict areas.

The commissioner, Salihu said that the media dialogue on child Poverty, organized by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) will bring development, improved the wellbeing and promote the sustainable growth of the future children in the region. 

“As you are aware the media chat on child poverty is in line with the current developmental priorities of our dear Geo-political zone, therefore, would be immensely contribute to an improved child development “

“Our region has been contending with poor human development indicators of insurgency and massive influx of people from conflict areas that surround us ” he stated.

He commended the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Bauchi Field Office for their wonderful contribution on the lives of children in Bauchi, Gombe and Adamawa state.

“I assure you that our governments will fully support and partnership to ensure maximum benefit for our country” he stated.

Earlier in a remark, the permanent secretary Adamawa state planning commission, Mr. Amos Enock Piribu said that “We are here to shed light on a critical issue that demands our immediate attention – child poverty in the focus states of Bauchi Field Office. 

He said that “As we come together to discuss and raise awareness about the challenges faced by children in these regions, let us remember that every child deserves a fair chance at a bright future”

“We can work towards creating a better tomorrow for the children of Bauchi Field Office. Let us amplify their voices, advocate for their rights, and strive to build a more inclusive and equitable society for all” he stated

The Adamawa State permanent secretary, Mr Amos Enock Piribu calls on the people to show commitment towards combating child poverty, and create a world where every child will have the opportunity to thrive.
