Kogi: Obidient movement raises alarm over alleged impersonation
By Odimayo Olattunde, Kogi
The Obidient Movement in Kogi State has raised the alarm over alleged impersonation and attempts to undermine its leadership, accusing one Mrs Blessing Martins of falsely parading herself as the state Women Leader of the movement.
The movement, which expressed concern over what it described as an unauthorized assumption of leadership positions, warned that it would not tolerate the use of its name and identity to mislead members of the public or advance personal interests.
In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by its General Spokesperson, Emmanuel Idakwo, the group called on individuals who were not officially recognized within its leadership structure to desist from presenting themselves as its representatives.
It also cautioned against exploiting the movement’s identity for personal publicity or associating it with what it described as blackmail, misinformation and propaganda.
The movement stressed that its leadership structure remained intact, insisting that no individual should claim any official position without the necessary recognition and authorization.
It reaffirmed its commitment to the ideals of the Obidient Movement, particularly its mission of rescuing Nigeria and building a country that works for all, declaring that its vision of a New Nigeria remained unwavering.
The group also dismissed what it described as false narratives and misleading claims being circulated about the town hall meeting attended by the former presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi.
According to the statement, the gathering was highly successful, contrary to accounts allegedly being promoted by individuals seeking to discredit the movement and undermine its activities.
It urged Nigerians and supporters of the movement to disregard what it characterized as deliberate attempts to distort facts, blackmail its leadership and create divisions within its ranks.
The movement further appealed to its members and the general public to remain vigilant, united and steadfast, warning that individuals or groups seeking to sow discord would not be allowed to derail its objectives.
It maintained that it would remain focused on its commitment to national transformation despite what it described as attempts at intimidation, misinformation and internal destabilization.
“A New Nigeria Remains Possible,” the statement concluded.
