The Former House of Representatives candidate for Ebonyi Ohaukwu Federal Constituency, Aliuna Godwin, has dismissed claims that a political summit in Ebonyi State rejected Governor Francis Nwifuru’s bid for a second term in office in 2027.

Aliuna urged the people of Ebonyi State to disregard what he described as misleading accounts surrounding the purported summit, insisting that no credible stakeholders political summit had taken place to reject the governor’s re-election bid or the state’s established governorship zoning arrangement.

Speaking with journalists in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, Aliuna cautioned political actors against statements capable of creating division among political leaders, aspirants and stakeholders ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He described attempts to undermine the governorship zoning arrangement as contrary to the principles established by the founding fathers of the state, warning that efforts to disrupt the arrangement would only generate unnecessary political tension.

According to him, the zoning formula remains an important issue in Ebonyi’s political discourse and should not be discarded in the pursuit of individual political ambitions.

The former House of Representatives candidate further maintained that efforts to prevent Nwifuru from seeking re-election in 2027 would not succeed, expressing confidence in the governor’s political standing and record in office.

Aliuna argued that Nwifuru had demonstrated commitment to governance through projects and programmes which, according to him, had brought dividends of democracy to the people of the state.

He therefore called on political stakeholders to focus on issues of development, unity, equity and peaceful political engagement rather than controversies that could deepen divisions within the state.

The former candidate also urged political leaders and governorship aspirants to exercise restraint in their public statements, stressing the need to preserve the political understanding that has shaped power-sharing discussions in Ebonyi since its creation.

He maintained that the 2027 political process should be guided by respect for established agreements, constructive dialogue and the collective interests of the people.

Aliuna’s comments come amid renewed political discussions in Ebonyi State over governorship succession, zoning and the prospects of Nwifuru seeking another term in office in 2027.

However, his rejection of the reported summit and its alleged position on the governor’s second-term ambition represents his own account of the development.

The organisers of the purported summit and other stakeholders would need to clarify the event’s resolutions and their positions on the issues raised.
